The Meaning Behind Bedsheet Thread Counts
GBS Enterprises provides product protection services to some of the leading retailers in the mattress and bedding industry including a GBS warranty. GBS warranty plans are available for many different types of home furnishings. In 2015, GBS Enterprises unveiled the Healthy Sleep line of mattress covers and bedsheets.
Bedsheets are commonly categorized by their thread count. Thread counts are calculated by adding together the number of threads woven horizontally and vertically in one square inch of fabric. Often bedsheet and textile manufacturers inflate their products’ thread count by counting the fibers in each thread separately. In practice, an 800-count sheet could actually be comprised of 400 threads made up of two fibers. Increasing the thread count in this manner has little impact on softness or quality.
Rather than relying on thread counts, consumers should consider other factors, such as their skin type and personal preferences. Buyers with sensitive skin should look for breathable bedding, such as GBS Healthy Sleep Ultra-Tech’s bedsheets, which are made from Tencel, a lightweight fabric derived from wood pulp.
